If you are used to our site, you probably realized we recently changed its look. After 11 years, it was time!

We made the following changes:

• Enhanced classification of music types. While we realize it's not perfect yet, we tried to give you a better classification. Now our categories are Konpa, Racine (roots), Kreyol Jazz, Ragga Rap, Zouk, and Françaises. Those genres always appear on the site's main menu, so you can jump at any time to any genre.
• Better seach funtionality. Now you can search for an artist, a band, an album, or even a song name by using a single search box. The results appear all on one page, to make it easy to find what you want.
• The latest and most popular CDs now appear on the site's front page. If you're looking for what's hot, you'll find it right away. We also display the latest CDs most recently added to our catalog, right on the front page.
• Friendlier band/artist menu. More and more people are now using their smartphones or tablet PCs to browse the web. The old site's band menu (on the left of the music pages) simply did not work with devices operated via a touch screen. Now it does.
• Better color scheme, so that you can clearly see the items you are looking for. The old site was certainly colorful and lively, but it was a bit much. We are now trying to emphasize the albums and DVD covers. After all, that's why you're visiting us, right?
• Quicker check out. Now the cart page will appear as soon as you add an item to your shopping cart.
• Clearer shopping cart page. Your cart now displays the items you have added, and provides two links: One to proceed to check out, and another one to continue shopping. While these options already existed, we tried to make it friendlier.
• More to come... We welcome your suggestions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. How come so many CDs are out of stock?

A. Some CDs in our inventory move very fast. There are CDs we sometimes have to buy every week. Because we have so many titles, we try not to have too many of any one CD, to keep our costs down. Nevertheless, on recent albums, a request from you for us to get a CD is usually met with a positive response within a few days. If our site shows that we have a CD in stock, that CD really is on our shelves!

Often times, older CDs that we offer on our site run out and cannot easily be replaced. In many cases, it takes months, sometimes years for the owner of the music to go ahead and print a new batch. There's very little we can do about that, short of removing the CD from the site altogether. We prefer not to do that, as we still continue to try to obtain those CDs, except in some rare cases, when we know for sure that CD will not be produced again (then we discontinue that item from our site). Rest assured that we are letting producers and suppliers know when you ask for a CD, so those requests, although sometimes unfulfilled, are very useful.

Q. Is it safe to enter my credit card on the site?

Yes, it is. Here's why: The page where you enter your credit card uses SSL, the encryption technology used by all legitimate ecommerce sites. Once you enter the number and click the Submit button, the information is sent, in encrpted format, to one of the world's biggest and most respected credit card online processing companies (Authorize.net). That company takes care of the credit card fund withdrawal. Once the transaction is complete, the billing data is discarded from our site. WE DO NOT SAVE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. For that reason, even if there ever was a security breach on checkoutcds.com, no credit card info could be lost: There's nothing there. We realize many companies choose to keep your credit card information on file, to make future purchases easier. We choose not to do this, and because of that choice, we are very confident about the safety of using the site. Indeed, since we opened in 1999, we never had a case where someone had unauthorized transactions on their credit card as a result of shopping with us.

Q. Can checkoutcds.com help me get in touch with an artist?

Often times, people visiting the site need to get in touch with an artist or a band, usually for booking information. While we're not garanteeing our being able to contact all of them, in many cases,we can forward requests or messages to the bands for you. We're here to promote Haitian and Caribbean music. It's a pleasure for us to help in any way we can!

Q. How come you don't have album xyz, even though it is very popular?

We try to bring you all the items you might desire. However, often times there are albums circulating out there that were produced without the authorization of the band that is featured. These albums are commonly referred to as bootlegs.

We will not sell or distribute bootleg products on our web site, or through any other outlet. As bootleg manufacturers are improving their methods of manufacturing counterfeit products, we are constantly improving our sourcing methods to minimize the possibility of having non-authentic products on our shelves.
